Raven Rock State Park Adventure
If you are looking for a fun day trip to enjoy the outdoors Lillington, NC is a great place to go! You can choose to take the interstate or the backroads with it only being about 1 hour 15 minutes away from Pikeville its the perfect little getaway.
We left our town about 11am so we decided to stop and get lunch before we went to Raven Rock and we found the most perfect little restaurant right on the Cape Fear River. Its called The Riverside Restaurant. They have delicious smash burgers! We also tried to buffalo chicken sandwich which was good and their fries were amazing dipped in the homemade ranch! We sat outside on the patio and the kids were able to go right down to the grassy area near the river and swing and play while we ate. It was pretty sweet. Check out the restaurant website here.
We headed to Raven Rock right after that. It was a fun little adventure through the trees, over bridges and streams, and even down by the river. I will say you have to watch your step for tree roots and if you choose to go down by the river there are a lot of steps to get up and down but it was totally doable for our family. Our kids are 13 and 11. I think kids ages 4 and up would do well as long as they don’t mind walking. There were lots of dogs on leashes enjoying the park as well. I think we walked about 3 or 4 miles or so altogether. We stopped by the bathrooms on the way out and they were the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen. Seriously. They were so nice and even air conditioned. Find the link to the website here. It has everything Raven Rock has to offer as well as a map. They do offer camping and I would love to go back and do that one day soon!
After we left Raven Rock we stopped by one of our favorite little coffee shops called Front Street Coffee in downtown Lillington. My go to coffee order is “The Bees Knees” You can check out their website here. They have games you can play while you sip your coffee as well as private soundproof rooms to sit in if you’d like.
On our way to Raven Rock we spotted a small park that we decided to stop at before we left town. We all had so much fun there. We rode the zip line and went down the slide. There is a lot of open grass area if you wanted to bring a ball or frisbee and throw. I will say it seemed geared toward older children. We did spot a little trail off the park but since we had already walked so much we didn’t explore that.
It was a great family day and the only cost we had was the food and coffee we ordered and the gas to get there. 🙂 You could make this even more budget friendly and pack food for a picnic to eat at the park!
Enjoy our photos and let me know if you decide to go!

We love going out to Raven Rock for a great family day hike! Glad y’all enjoyed it!
